Robert Harris, Pompeii (New York: Random House, 2003), p. 22. Ibid., p. 49. A film version was announced in 2007, with Roman Polanski as director, but later abandoned. The project may be revived in some form. Harris is also the author of a trilogy-in-progress on the career of Cicero.
